Sakata Matabei
Sakata Matabei Farm has deep roots in Japanese tea culture. Its farm is located in Kumiyama Town (Kuse District, Kyoto Prefecture) – the historic Yamashiro region in southern Kyoto. This area, known as the Hamadai coastal plain along the Kizu River, was recognized over 350 years ago as ideal for tea cultivation.

Shinsuke Tsuji
The brand's history began in 1860 when entrepreneur Tsuji Sensuke, later known as Rihei, opened his own tea business. It was a time of great change: the Tokugawa shogunate was in decline, and the tea industry was going through a difficult period. It was then that Rihei decided to focus on quality and tradition. His pride became Uji Gyokuro, and later—the famous "Daimon" blend.
